How Can We Reduce Fuel Costs – Fuel Cards or Driving Habits?
It has been in the news a lot recently that the cost of fuel is again on the rise and that could potentially be a problem for fleets as they have numerous vehicles in use per day. What is it that fleets can do to help cut fuel costs? Is it the driving habits of staff, ensuring that they have good driving habits in order to save on fuel, or is it fuel cards? Well, actually, it is both.
We are all aware that bad driving habits can incur more fuel being used by a vehicle, this includes speeding, excessive breaking and engine idling. So when drivers use good habits when driving in their vehicles the fuel usage is lower, and therefore is saving on fuel. All drivers should be driving within speed limits at all time; this will enable them to brake slower, stopping the excessive breaking.
Fuel cards are slowly becoming more and more popular within fleet companies as they enable fleet managers to monitor the fuel usage of a vehicle. Fuel cards can be personalised to each staff member and they allow managers to see how much fuel is being used and when, where and how often a vehicle is being filled with fuel. The cards work like credit cards but are not linked to any bank account and invoices are produced with the details that a fleet manager wishes to use.
So, we believe that by using both methods above, you can help to lower fuel costs efficiently.
